I wish I could do just 4.5 stars, but I can't, so I stuck with 5. This book was unique and enjoyable and I really liked the writing and storytelling. Just the right amount of details, in my opinion. The characters were fun and lively. My biggest issue is that this really should have been about 50% longer. The last couple of chapters wind up far too quickly without any real resolution.**mild spoiler alert*****after the incredible danger Maribel finds herself in, plus being reunited with characters from the past, etc., there is really no conflict whatsoever, just a couple conversations that say the danger is now past. There were some subplots/more issues introduced in the end that are never given the chance to play out, and I was left with quite a few questions. I also felt that the adult relationship between the two main characters was far too abrupt, and it was odd that Maribel's reunion with her family combined with them keeping an enormous secret from her didn't create a lot more conflict.With all that said, I still enjoyed the book, and would definitely look into other things the author has written. I enjoyed her style and her storytelling, though I would probably recommend this for a more teenage crowd based on the things I mentioned above.

The Pirate BrideBy: Kathleen Y’BarboThis story begins with a spitfire of a girl. I enjoyed the energy and boldness of Maribel Cordoba, the main character. The beginning of this book was an adventure and fun to read. With that said, part two of this story was rather abrupt and stunted. The story felt incomplete. I will admit the story took turns I did not expect but there was not explanation for them. I would have liked to see some more depth to the end of this book. Over all though it was well written and enjoyable to read. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
I loved the book and the interesting plot, the supporting characters and the underlying goings on of other characters that made for some riveting twists. I loved Jean and Maribel and I loved their relationship especially when she was a child on his ship. I had my fair share of laughs there. I do wish that I could have seen more of their relationship as adults. I wanted to see them fall in love again and in this new way and although there were glimpses it was more sudden than I would have liked. I also would have appreciated an epilogue and on extra thing that I won’t spoil would have been nice at the end, but overall, I loved the book. Totally would encourage anyone who loves adventure, privateers, and a little bit of romance thrown in there in the wonderful historical adventure. I plan to read more from this author after this venture. Four stars
I absolutely adored the child Maribel, who served as the foundation for the grown-up Maribel. I really wish that as readers, we had been afforded a little more time to get to know her! But the love story of Jean-Luc & Maribel, from set sail to safe harbor, was destined from the beginning. The history of the time & places was rich and fascinating. This series just keeps getting better!
I enjoyed this story. This story shows how shifting loyalties could turn privateers into pirates. I enjoyed the characters and the affection the privateers developed for a feisty heroine. I think the romance was meant to build subtly, and I kept thinking that something more romantic than practical would happen as the characters reunited. I felt focused on reading to the end to find out if I was following the author’s clues and my predictions would come true and clear up some of the mysteries.
Wow! What a great ride! I thoroughly enjoyed this well-researched, adventurous, romantic story. What I loved most was that the story was not in any way predictable, but instead fresh and full of twists that even surprised this author. I loved loved loved the characters and the romance set my heart pounding. If you haven't read this book and all of Kathleen's books, you're really missing out!
This is the 2nd book and quite the adventure! I found myself wondering what would happen next throughout the entire book! Don't read too fast as you may miss a subtle clue to all the sub-plots going on! I highly recommend this book with a warm fire and a bottle of wine!
