This second workbook is slightly more challenging than the first Basic one,and very helpful. I have seen a major improvement in my student'swriting and deciphering of visual clues. It is a mistake to think thatpeople from other cultures understand all the little details of daily lifehere that we take for granted. Students enjoy using this book becauseeach page is a bit of a puzzle they must solve. The learning that takesplace is rewarding and entertaining for them.In my case, I don't need the CD and would liketo be able to buy the look without it at a lower price.
I find the units too long on Grammar (which is 'presented' in a confusing 'order and very short onListening opportunities or meaningful, structured oral practices. More importantlyNONE OF THE WORKBOOK CD's PLAY on players/boomboxes, regardless of whwther bought at college bookstore orOnline. (It is possible to play workbook cds in computers.)This includesI mine. I think the publisher should return a % of theamount students purchased the books for. Very disappointing and unfair.
Students are enjoying and learning. Curriculum promotes more opportunities for conversation than was in level one. Only complaint is that the CD included in the student workbooks only play in a computer (not on a CD player) which is creating some challenges for our students.
I love the Ventures series and online website which students and teachers can use for further work and suggestions. It has a very balanced approach to speaking, reading, writing, conversation, grammar and the teacher's book has suggestions for activities. I was allowed to chose the textbooks for my church based ESL program, and I chose the Ventures series.

My aunt recently came from another country and her English has improved well in a short amount of time.
