Excellent book! Educational, and gives many Supreme Court Cases to back up the information. A must read for those whom do not understand, or want to have a deeper knowledge how our unalienable rights are being attacked via "good intentions" and unconstitutional laws.
Excellent work!!! But scary....the entire judiciary is asleep at the wheel. They have abrogated all power to the legislature and the executive. We have reached this point in time where the people are now afraid of the government, instead of the other way around. The book's conclusionis that none of it can be fixed short of complete government collapse.
This book should be a must-read for every first-year law student as well as for those in law enforcement at all levels. Roberts and Stratton make the case for how law enforcement and the courts trample the rights of citizens and endanger the public safety, not to mention destroying our founding document, the Constitution of the U.S. Be prepared to get angry at the unfairness dealt to ordinary, law-abiding citizens who cannot possibly know every nuance of every law passed by every community and state in the U.S., let alone the constantly changing federal law. This book will both outrage and inform the ordinary citizen.
Excellent book, if you grew up, like I did being indoctrinated that law enforcement people are always the good guys, the read this book! This book talks about Federal Prosecutors (known as AUSA's) and how they are like any other person who wants to get ahead in life, they have ambitions like to be a judge or seek a political office and they have no problem stepping on your back to get there. They will use their power and office to get their way and convict you of a crime and send you to prison. I don't mean to say that people should not be prosecuted and sent to prison, but in many cases that is too extreme! Read the chapter about Michael Milken (the junk bond dealer back in the 80's) and Rudy Guiliani. It is great book and an eye opener, everyone should read it and know the truth, then maybe the prosecutors won't look so good and next time you see a political ad where the guy who was a former prosecutor and is running for office is telling you how tough he was on crime, maybe you will think was he being tough on crime cause it was necessary or because he wanted this office?
Paul Craig Roberts is a Reagan Era official who is deathly concerned about the appalling rate of convictions and prison time which has increased in recent times.Roberts argues that under the concept of Anglo-Saxon common law one could only be convicted if the perpetrator of a crime had an evil intent. Today, intent is irrelevant and so pizza companies whose used boxes are discovered at an environmental clean-up site can be found liable for the mess.There are many concerns over a budding police state but the two biggest concerns of Roberts are multiple charges for a single crime and the War on Drugs. In the first case, prosecutors (and colluding judges) don't charge a person with one crime, they charge them with a suite of related crimes practically guaranteeing a conviction on some count.The other concern is the War on Drugs. In an effort to stomp out the scourge of narcotics the US Government has created mandatory minimum sentences and laws against things which are related to the drug trade but not in and of themselves illegal. That includes arrests for large caches of money, plant grow lights, cigarette paper, etc.The most dangerous law is property confiscation for items used in drug dealing. This is a moral hazard in that the state can capture property for use in drugs. In one horrifying incident a property owner was killed by a SWAT team and his choice digs were taken by the state. The genesis of this outrage was when a law enforcement official "saw" marijuana plants when overflying the area.Of course, Anglo-Saxon Common Law has always had a hard edge. Many Englishmen were transported in chains to Australia, Georgia, and other colonies for crimes that are pretty small today. However, when things get out of hand it is certainly good to have the freedom of speech to point out the problem and make adjustments.

He documents perfectly how the rights of Englishmen, the Magna Carta and the Constitution have all been supplanted by dangerously stupid criminals who have zero critical thinking skills, zero understanding about the spirit of fair play, and have the maturity of children on the elementary school playground. This book shows how criminals and dummies have completely taken over the justice system, and how we are back to the regressive Dark Ages - NOT being metaphorical here - I mean that literally. The next thing you know they'll be back to burning "witches" at the stake.
